GIANTS IN THE BLUE
GIANTS IN THE BLUE

44x 94cm (framed in lime washed wood and ready to hang)
Giants in the Blue is inspired by my time living in Karratha and the easy trips down to Exmouth, back when a weekend swim with whale sharks could be as simple as jumping in the car and heading south. Those experiences have stayed with me: the sheer size and grace of these creatures, the way they move so calmly through the water, and the feeling of being completely present in that moment.
This piece isn’t about painting them exactly as they are, but about capturing the feeling of being there—the rhythm, the flow, and that incredible sense of life underwater. When I’m beneath the surface and look up, the light shifts and dances with the movement of the ocean. That play of light and motion is something I always try to bring into my work.
I work in layered mixed media, using collage along with ink, acrylic and sometimes oils—whatever feels right in the moment. The process is intuitive, building up textures and depth in a way that reflects the natural movement and energy of the ocean.
At its heart, this painting is about connection, my love of the ocean, the people I’ve shared these moments with, and the lasting impression those experiences leave.
To live with this work is to be drawn into the calm, powerful rhythm of the ocean, where light, movement and memory gently unfold over time.
