“Live in the layers,
not on the litter.”
...I am not done with my changes.’
- Stanley Kunitz
Initially inspired by the poetry of Stanley Kunitz, recited to music at the Collective Trauma Summit 2022, by Kim Rosen & Jami Sieber. This piece was a bright red exploration of the layers of grief; there is something in the truth telling of those difficult times we individually & collectively faced, that goes beyond our understanding. As we each experience devastating moments (as we do & will), the urge/the desire/the will to continue to show up & 'live in the layers, not the litter' is to my mind the seed of a deeper faith & the hope for a different future.
The Zen Circle calls me now to simplicity (which doesn't deny the complexity). The gardenia flower is symbolic of feminine grace, subtlety, purity & justice; essences for this time ahead.
Happiness, whenever we chase after her, she disappears,
Yet when we empty & prepare to receive, she abides.
Ready to hang.
